This is my kext file from my Mac running same Sierra Multomix that’s not more helpful, but it is possible.

About the trick, when i download the driver, i’ve only a dmg file and not an app file. The kext utility was acting weird, couldn’t tell if it worked or not, so i erased the alesis drivers, reinstalled them, and now I can record using my Mm8 FW into Logic Pro X.
